With the new travel restrictions could someone let me know if there are duty free stores in the international arrivals at Honolulu airport - and whether they are open most of the day and night. We are travelling from Sydney to Hawaii and cannot purchase prior to leaving Aussie.
Thanks.
Duty Free Honolulu airport
aloha~
yes there are still duty free shops in the Honolulu airport, and they are still open regular hours (which varies with flight schedules). The difference is they now put liquids in sealed bags and you will be expected to pack them in your check-in luggage.
Duty Free Honolulu airport
On 08/17 we were at thye HNL airport and the Duty Free stores were not open at 3:oo pm.
My understanding about liquids and duty free is that as long as your purchases are delivered to you on the plane, you can take them on board. So they told me in Canada, anyway....
Okay, none of this gives you the hours but ...
I assume the DF stores in Honolulu are open at least part of the time ... here is a quote from the Honolulu Advertiser ...
';In Hawai%26#39;i, DFS U.S. Group vice president Sharon Weiner said the duty-free business is proceeding as normal because the purchases are distributed to passengers in a sealed bag as they board the plane.';
From the TSA Web site (Transportation Security Administration)
Duty free items are permitted if delivered directly onto the aircraft. However, passengers making connections from international to domestic flights must transfer the items to their checked bag before boarding their flight. At pre-clearance airports passengers must put duty free items into their checked luggage since the aircraft deplanes behind passenger security checkpoints.
I guess I%26#39;m a bit confused, but is there a dutyfree shop where I can buy alcohol, perfumes etc in Honolulu International airport and will they be open at 9.30am on a Saturday morning when I arrive from Australia. Qantas will not allow us to take dutyfree on the plane as carry on because of the restrictions, so we can only buy on our way back into Australia.

We are leaving on Saturday from Brisbane for Hawaii as well, we are getting married there ( you%26#39;ll see me carrying my wedding dress on the plane), I to am interested in the duty free. I think we are will buy alcohol when we get to Honolulu, I would be very disapointed if the shop wasn%26#39;t open at 9.30am on a Saturday morning.2 sleeps to go.
In addition to the airport there are two other duty free stores in the Waikiki area.

has anyone ever compared DFS prices to something like walmart prices, they always looked like japanese tourist traps to me, my guess you can do better shopping around.
Correct again Longboard.....
While DFS prices my be less than what you pay in your home country, for the most part, they aren%26#39;t meaningfully cheaper (if at all) than what is available at many stores in Hawaii.
The only real savings is for the very top-most labels or specialty/commemorative offerings; those with prices, say, above $40 a bottle. You can get a ';fifth'; of Jack Daniels cheaper at an ABC Store in Waikiki than via duty free.
Remember, DFS pays HUGE rents at the airport and exorbitant fees for the Waiki location.
Your best bet is to finagle a Costco membership card; they have great liquor prices and its on the way to Waikiki. Longs Drug also has very good prices with an OK selection; or check out the specials at any one of the gazillion ABC Stores.
