Hi-

We will be in Kihei, Maui for Christmas this year (dec 24-jan4) and are staying at the Maui Coast Hotel. Anybody have any suggestions for fun family things to do?

You must snorkel and/or just enjoy being able to swim in the ocean. You could probably teach your 6 year old how to snorkel. We try to do so almost every morning while on Maui. Iao Needle. Lahaina town - you have to check it out at least once.

Thanks for the info- any specific areas that are better for smaller children to go to snorkel?

Does anyone have any opinions about the Maui Coast and how it is for kids?

We really enjoyed the Maui Ocean Center....lots for a little one to do, and us ';big kids'; liked it too! Snorkel early in the morning with the little one before the big waves start coming in. You might be interested in trying a snorkel trip to Molokini they usually cater to children/families quite nicely.....never turn your back on that ocean and don%26#39;t take your eyes off your little one for one second (just grandma advice)......Warren and Annabells has a family oriented show, call ahead and check out time and cost. We went to the adult only show in the evening....

We took my 6 year old daughter snorkeling at Black Rock this past August.

I had her try and snorkel twice at a pool before the trip. The mouth tube was uncomfortable for her and she prefered not to use it.

We ended up placing her across a boogy board and she wore her swim goggles. She can hold her breath for a fair amount of time and would just place her face in the water to observe all the fish. She even was able to see a turtle (late afternoon at Black Rock)

using this method.

I hear, but didn%26#39;t witness boogy boards with a window cut into it.

It sounds like a great alternative if you daughter can%26#39;t hold her breath for a decent amount of time.

I would recommend a life jacket. We placed both our kids 8 and 6 in them and were able to snorkel as a family around the tip of Black Rock.

We rented the snorkel equipment and board from Snorkel Bob%26#39;s for the entire week.

I would suggest mabye one/two of the shorter hikes with the waterfalls to take a swim/picnic in. Our grandkids would(I think??) like the ';adventure'; and then the swim at the end of the hike. The only downside might be the drive to/from??

I recently took my 9,7,4, year old girls and 2 year old boy. They all had a great trip. The higlights for the older kids was a snorkel trip with PWF. We were there during whale season but if you take the right one you should see dolphins and/or turtles. The two older kids both snorkled and loved it. Definetly get them a lifejacket as it helps keep them afloat.

Also do the Road to Hana and take the time to stop and hike into some of the waterfalls. The kids loved hiking around and discovering new things. The ';Blue Book'; helped significantly in finding some of the less popular, but equally spectacular waterfalls.

Lastly, a luau. Probably last on the list for me, but high on the list for the girls as they loved the show and were able to get on stage and learn a couple of moves.

Try glow-in-the-dark mini golf. My 5 year old son loved it. It is located at the same shopping area that the Hard Rock Cafe is located.
