Too Little Time

Husband %26amp; I attending conference in HNL mid-Dec. Have 7 nights before this to visit Maui %26amp; Kauai. Any advice on how to break this up? I know there%26#39;s much to see %26amp; do on both islands, but don%26#39;t know if our time is better spent on one vs. the other. Our usual MO is to get in the car and see everything we can. Not big beach people but enjoy snorkeling. Will be staying at Marriotts on both islands .

BTW...would like any new feedback on conditions of these properties. Really enjoy the posts from previous visitors. Good to learn the real nitty-gritty.

Too Little Time

There are two Marriott properties on Kaua%26#39;i. Are you staying at the Waiohai (condos) or the Marriott resort in Lihue?

Too Little Time

We%26#39;ll be at the Marriott Resort in Lihue. Hoping the current construction is completed as scheduled , but I also know this seldom is the case.

In your situation, if you have never visited Maui or Kauai I think I would opt for an even split. I would ';get in the car and see everything';, reasoning that at least you can get an overview of each island for a future lengthy vacation stay. Believe me, you will know which island is calling you back!

You may have read varying opinions regarding the Marriott in Lihue. Whether it appeals to you or not, you are staying only two nights and will be out seeing everything. If I had the option, I would pick the newer Marriott Waiohai. On the other hand, you are a stone%26#39;s throw from the airport which could work out nicely for your short stay.

I cannot help with the Maui Marriott. I stayed in a condo in Kihei...a very busy stretch. Try to do the bumpy road to Hana with an early morning start and head out two hours before sunset. It is a lovely little town and very lush...in many ways.

Lihue is a good, central spot for your home base on Kaua%26#39;i. Whether you spend more time on Maui or Kaua%26#39;i really depends on if you want access to a touristy/shopping/souvenir-type area. Maui has this; Kaua%26#39;i doesn%26#39;t.

Maui probably has better snorkeling in general, but there are spots on Kaua%26#39;i that can range from just OK to very good.

In my personal opinion, Kaua%26#39;i has more incredible scenery than Maui and friendlier people. Don%26#39;t get me wrong; I like Maui, but I like the more rural feeling of Kaua%26#39;i best.
