Iz music

Is there a website that I could go to, to hear what this guy sounds like? Occasionally, I listen to KPOA, but I%26#39;ve never heard the dj announce a song by him.

I just dont%26#39; think I%26#39;ve heard him sing yet, and all you Maui Addicts out there rave about him. I just want to see what all the hubbub is!

Iz music

sorry that didn%26#39;t cache the artist, just go to the link and search for ';facing future'; under albums and it will bring up his best album for you in the browser with all the songs ready to go.

Hi Santy, I%26#39;m sure you have heard his music but not aware of it. IZ%26#39;s ';somewhere over the rainbow'; is in commercials and movie%26#39;s. Today watched ';50 Dates'; with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore and the song is also on there- LOVE this movie, especially the part when Rob Schnieder plays Lucy, sooo hestical, I can burst from laughter. Go on Amazon and you can listen to samples of his songs. This morning, I even had him playing in my carpool, my son likes the first song on Facing Future, very beautiful almost haunting but as soon as we pull up to the school, ';Mom turn it down.'; I say, why, it%26#39;s IZ!!! After the older kids jump out of the car, I turn it up for my girls and I to enjoy! Buy a cd, you will not regret it. We also like the Island Roots cd%26#39;s which have various hawaiian artists.

Santy:

Surely you have heard the Somewhere Over The Rainbow/What A Wonderful World tune that was used in ';Meet Joe Black';, ';Finding Forester';, ';50 First Dates';, and several television commercials (including the Organic Rice Krispies commercial that is currently running)? That%26#39;s Iz. He had a beautiful voice.

DOH! You just barely beat me to it, hula!

Hawaii 78%26#39; is the first and last song on the Facing Future cd, amazing song from an amazing artist.

Thanks for the link, and yes, you%26#39;re all correct, I have heard it. Just wasn%26#39;t aware that was him.

Mahalo!

I bought my first Israel Kamakawiwo%26#39;ole back in %26#39;98 (Facing Future) from a haole lady that runs a little music stand in front of Foodland in the Princevile Shopping Mall. I%26#39;d recommend it as a good first choice. (Has the Over the Rainbow / It%26#39;s a Wonderful life medley as well as a great cover of John Denver%26#39;s ';Country Roads'; with some subtle lyric changes giving some shouts out to his Makaha Boyz.)

As well as his own magnificent songs of course. The album was first released in 1993.

I then picked all the rest of his studio discs:

Ka%26#39; Ano%26#39;i (1990)

E Ala E (1995)

In Dis Life (1996)

I also have his live album ';IZ in Concert';

There%26#39;s a couple of other issues of posthumous live, compilation and unreleased material I%26#39;d like to pick up someday soon (as wellas a couple DVD%26#39;s).

There%26#39;s also a new ';Coffee Table'; Iz book I noticed at Borders the other day that looks very cool.

How did he die?

Rent this movie. They have it on NetFlix

The movie will explain it all.

Israel Kamakawiwo%26#39;ole: IZ: The Man Behind the Music (2004)

Weighing in at almost a ton, Hawaiian musician Israel Kamakawiwo%26#39;ole was such a big star in his native land that his premature death at the age of 38 was declared a statewide day of mourning. Known simply as Iz, the musical icon charmed audiences with his impressive slack-key ukelele-playing and the transcendent beauty of his incredibly tender and emotionally expressive voice.
