Traffic

I know the traffic in Honolulu is bad, but can someone pin point the hours of the worst of it in the morning and afternoon/evening? I am from Los Angeles area and I know traffic, but would like to try to avoid being on the road at the worst of it, if possible.

debi,

I see you post in the Kapolei forum so am assuming you are travelling to/from the Leeward side. I hate sitting in traffic and actually plan my errands/appts around it.

The worst traffic is in the a.m is INTO Honolulu. Rush hour starts approx. 5 a.m. and can last until 9. Usually lets up around 8 or 830. From Honolulu (%26amp; back to the Leeward side) rush hour starts around 3pm and lasts until 6 or 7pm. If there is an accident on the H-1, it could double or triple your commute time.

I live out on the Leeward side so if you need more traffic info, or clarification, let me know.

Traffic

thanks for your info mrsfuzz. yes, we are staying at Ko%26#39;Olina. are you a police officer by any chance?

No. I%26#39;m not. What makes you ask?

marinemom,

I%26#39;m not offended at all...just curious. Especially since you aren%26#39;t the first to ask!!!

You know I could never relate %26#39;The Fuzz%26#39; with the police. Never got it.

Anyway, I live out in Ewa Beach and the traffic can be horrendous. The rush hours are pretty much correct as MsFuzz(?) pointed out. We usually leave our house at 7:45 am so we can safely make it into the zipper lane by it%26#39;s 8:30 closing time. Zipperlane is for two or more occupants in a vehicle. For the most part we make it into the downtown area by 8:30. If we left our house anytime between 5:30 (or maybe even earlier) and 7:30 it would be useless for us because the zipper lane is just as slow as the regular freeway. My son also works in town and leaves the house at 5 and gets into town by 5:45.

Going to work is a breeze compared to coming home. On a good day we%26#39;ll leave the downtown area at 5 and get home just after 6. Just to get to Ewa Beach from any off ramp after the H1/H2 split is murder. However, you should have no problem getting to Ko Olina. Sometimes the traffic getting into Nanakuli, which is after Ko Olina, does back up to your exit to Ko Olina. Oh, and traffic starts getting thick around 3 or 3:30.

We usually watch the morning news to see how the traffic is and we check out the traffic cams before we go home.
