Help! Wailua Bay View

My husband and I are going to Kauai in spring 2007 and would like to stay at the WBV. The only unit availabe on the 3rd floor is #311. I can%26#39;t find anything on it in any reviews. Has anyone stayed there? I don%26#39;t mind the outdated furniture...my main concern is cleanliness.

The resort seems to be clean over all but the various reviews state each condo depends on the owner.

Anyone?

Help! Wailua Bay View

chiisai, My husband and I have stayed here numerous times.

We have never had a bad room.We always go for the higher # rooms. We booked this room for July of 2007. I am sure you will be pleased.

Hi chiisai,

I spend a lot of time at Wailua Bay View condos on Kauai. I%26#39;ve never stayed in #311, but I did tour it during a recent open house. It%26#39;s for sale, so by next spring, it could very well have a complete decor make-over. The view from the lanai - well even from way inside the living room - is absolutely stunning!

While I was talking to the realtor who is selling the unit, I made some suggestions regarding what improvements would really make a difference in that unit, such as shutters inside the bedroom windows (so that occupants can shut out light and noise at will) as well as new linens. The rental agent will likely make the same suggestions to the new owner.

The current owner bought it recently from a long-time owner and is just ';flipping'; it for quick sale and profit, I think. This particular owner isn%26#39;t interested making any improvements to accellerate the sale, but hopefully who ever buys it will care about the livability factor enough to at least buy new linens and add the shutters. It would make a big difference in the look, feel, and livability of that unit. (IMO, it would sell quicker if the current owner would make those small adjustments, but that%26#39;s not my business.) The view is so gorgeous that it%26#39;s a shame not to bring the furnishings up to a slightly higher quality.

Usually when a new owner comes along, the first thing they do is paint, carpet and upgrade the furniture and furnishings to reflect their style and excitement in their new vacation hideaway.

You might go ahead and make your reservations and then check on the amenties closer to your trip to see if there have been any improvements. If you don%26#39;t mind the outdated wicker furniture and the less than crisp bedspred, then you will likely be happy in the unit as it is.

Wailua Bay View is kept up nicely and each unit is clean, no matter how it%26#39;s furnished. The rental agency does have some minimum standards that must be met in order to be in the rental pool, so you%26#39;ll always have the basics, if not more. Staff and frequent return visitors are all so friendly -- you%26#39;re like part of the family when you stay at WBV!

I%26#39;ll be heading over to Kauai next month Oct 23 - Nov 13 and staying in my own unit 210, which is just kitty-corner down from 311. Being the busy-body that I am, I usually hear if one of the owners is uprading their unit and am often invited to take a peek. If that happens, I%26#39;ll share that experience here. I%26#39;ll also be staying at WBV during the last week of April too if that%26#39;s before your trip. What are your dates?

On this fall trip, we%26#39;re working toward putting high speed internet access in the majority of the units. I%26#39;m the one polling the owners for interest in that and so far the response has been encouraging. You will *probably* see the majority of the units at WBV offereing high speed internet soon. So far I think there%26#39;s only 5 units in the building with WIFI.

Hey Jamalam, My husband and I will be at Wailua Bay View June 21 - July 19, 2007. If you%26#39;re there at the same time, be sure to give a holler and a wave - or stop by and say hi.

hula, we will be ther June 28 to July 6..

I want to thank you all for your wonderful advice. We%26#39;re going to book it!!!

This will be our first trip to the islands and we%26#39;ll be staying at WBV Feb. 17-28th. If you hear anything re: improvements, let me know. Regardless, the cleanliness, view and kind inhabitants have sold me on it.

Thanks again!

A lot of people think that furniture, carpeting, draperies, and accessories in many of the condos on Kauai are outdated - 20, 30 years old, etc. That may not necessarily be the case however. The closer the unit is to the ocean, the more the weather and salt air hasten the furnishing%26#39;s demise! It%26#39;s unbelievable what the humidity and salt air can do to just about everything.

Hey Sydneycat --

Just had to tell you that you name and picture brought back great memories. Sydney was my beloved siamese mix for 20 years. He looked like yours.

He%26#39;s gone now, but I still have Kimo.

kimocat,

Well my Sydney is a lady...but my husband is Kimo!! how delightful!! :-)

Hey Kwils; did those Krispy Kreme 2fer%26#39;s find their way to you?

Careful, it%26#39;s dangerous stuff; I%26#39;ve dropped 11 lbs since the local KK went belly-up (sorry, couldn%26#39;t resist) five weeks ago.
