I am getting married Sept 2007 and we plan to spend our honey moon in hawaii. We are thinking 3 nights in Honolulu then 7 nights in Maui. Can someone let me know what the attractions are in Maui in September, we like to have things to see/do. Also we would like to visit The Big Island to see the volcanoes are we able to do a day trip via flying from Maui to The Big Island to do this??? Any hotel suggestions also grateful.

Hopefully more people respond, especially locals. All of the islands have Aloha festivals in different locals. Taste of Lahaina and Taste of North shore. Everyone on the boards talks about Warren and Annabelles magic show in Lahaina. Do you want to stay somewhere relaxing and slow-pace or hoppin%26#39; with action. Would you want to stay in a condo or a nice resort of something in between. You can check the flight schedules to see how often and how early and late you can get flights between the two islands. It%26#39;s faster to drive to the volcano from Hilo than Kailua-Kona but likely more expensive. You%26#39;ll want at least 2 or 3 hours at the park to get the whole volcano experience.

My wife and I always visit Maui in late Sept/early Oct. It is great, we are planning our next Maui trip for Sept 2007. We always stay at the Westin. The rooms are small, but its Maui, we only sleep there. The pool is outstanding. As far as activities, we have done the following: sunrise at mt. Haleakala (suggest you do that your first night there because you need to wake up around 2 or 3 am to make the drive), snorkling, sunrise cruise and snorkling on the Gemini (it is on the beach of the Westin), drove the road to hana, lots of pool time, shopping at whaler%26#39;s village, Lahina to eat and walk around, old lahina luau, lots of stuff to do within walking distance of Westin. Let me know if you have more questions.
chrisibee,
Congratulations!!! We go every year in Sept/Oct and love this time....
kids are in school,flights/rooms/cars,etc are cheaper, less traffic and the weather is fantastic. The only downside(IMO) is we miss the whales which we would really enjoy seeing.
I would suggest getting the Maui Rvealed book and following this site.
We stay at the Mahana and love it there(will be there in 3weeks).
If you could provide a few more details in what you are looking for in a place to stay you will get some excellent suggestions as well as things to do.
Before you dig too deep keep in mind whatever you choose you will love Maui!!!
Maui has two main areas for lodgings. The first two responders here like places in West Maui (actually NW part of the island). There is also South Maui (SW is more accurate).
W. Maui offers Lahaina, originally a whaling port, now a touristy place with galleries, bars, restaurants -- Lahaina and Kaanapali are the main ';nightlife'; on Maui. There are hotels and condos along its coast, going up to a golf resort at the north end. There are some swimming beaches and snorkeling areas. For me the additional traffic both within the area and getting to it detract from the island%26#39;s beauty.
S. Maui is Kihei, Wailea and Makena. It is more laid back, with condos ranging from budget to deluxe as you travel south through Kihei, then into Wailea with its luxury condos and resort hotels. The entire shoreline is one big beach, broken here and there by lava outcroppings. It has the best swimming and snorkeling starting about the middle of Kihei and running all the way south to Makena%26#39;s Big Beach. I%26#39;d stay anywhere from S. Kihei to Makena. It is easier to get to Haleakala, Road to Hana, etc. from S. Maui than from the NW corner.
So, W. Maui has more bustle. S. Maui is quieter. Each area has a wide choice of condos and hotels and restaurants.
You can do a day trip to Big Island. An air tour would let you see much of the island, quickly, and get you closer to the active lava flow at the volcano than you can get on foot. This is the largest of the islands -- too big to see by car in a day.
Autumn is a great time to visit Hawaii and Hawaii is a great place to begin your married life! Don%26#39;t worry about seeing everything in this trip. You will be back!
Wow thanks for all the replies what a fantstic help! Its good to know we can visit the big island in a day obviously only seeing certain things but like you all say we cant see everything and will probably go back!!
We like to be busy on holiday, neither of us drive but like a mixture of activities, day trips, sightseeing and also some relaxing plus with it being honeymoon a nice hotel would be an advantage. id like to be somewhere close to bars/restaurant for the evening time we would stay in a 4 or 5 star hotel Any more suggestions? We are hoping to book next month to get the best deals on flights. Does anyone know a tour operator we can book excusrsions/cruises with etc in advance?
chrisibee,
Your concierge at your resort/cond should be able to help you while you are there or I have heard good things about them on Maui.
