Hi we are getting married in June 2007 and are hoping to honeyoon a week in san francisco and then onto Maui for a further week. We would like to stay in a romantic place in Maui for our final week but not too far from places where we can have a bite to eat and a drink in the night? Any suggestions, please help?
Honeymooning in Mauihayleyc,
Congratulations!!!! Not knowing if you are looking for a resort or condo? We stay at the Mahana(condo) and everything is oceanfront.
You can look at reviews at anyplace you are interested in here on T/A. I would also suggest buying the Maui Revealed book for ideas.
I would suggest staying on the West side of Maui(Kaanapali,Lahaina,Kapulua, etc).
Honeymooning in MauiAloha!
I would opt for:
Hyatt Regency
Westin
Sheraton
All three are very romantic and well located.
All three have nice pools...Hyatt and Westin are more elaborate than Sheraton.
Sheraton has the best beach of the three...located right on Black Rock.
I am sure you will have a great time!

I like your plan! San Francisco is wonderful, and Maui is too. What a lovely way to start your married life!
There are two main tourist areas on Maui: West Maui and South Maui. (Actually, they are both on the island%26#39;s west side and would more properly be called NW and SW Maui.) Both are beautiful, fun places. West Maui has more hustle and bustle. South Maui is quieter.
I prefer South Maui for its many fine swimming and snorkeling beaches and its easier access to the rest of the island. It is home to four of the island%26#39;s finest resort hotels -- and there are many lovely condos.
Many people prefer West Maui for its greater shopping and nightlife. The old whaling town of Lahaina has Front Street with galleries, boutiques and bars -- downside can be traffic within the area and the two-lane road into West Maui. (No problem unless there is a traffic tie-up.)
OT: One of my ancestors came from Wales -- would love to see it one day.
Congratulations!! Well with that question you should get a lot of response and many different opinions. Mostly about which area, West Maui( Lahaina, Kaanapali, Kapalua) and South Maui (Kehei, Wailea) Personally we stay in West Maui at the Kaanapali Beach Hotel. We really enjoy it there. The staff is so friendly, it%26#39;s very close to food, shopping, snorkeling, and a great beach. But some don%26#39;t like the fact that it is an older hotel. It is one of the less expensive hotels. Both areas have great beaches and snorkeling but West Maui seems to have a bit more to do in the ways of shopping, dining, and activities. South Maui (and I%26#39;m no expert) seems to be more slow paced and great for relaxing. Many say it%26#39;s easier to get to South Maui now with the new highway and that West Maui is plagued with slow traffic. We were there in July and only had traffic once and we didn%26#39;t care much. It gave us a chance to enjoy the sights between the airport and West Maui. Hey! We were in Maui!
Another thing is going to be your budget. One thing I would do is to look around the internet and try to find a few places that look good to you then ask here about specific resorts or hotels.
Hope this helps a little. Have a great trip and a wonderful new life together.
ChiSue, great minds think alike. lmao
I promise on our next trip that we are going to get down and visit your South Maui. You need to hook me up with some great snorkel spots because our next trip is going to be pretty much dedicated to that.
I would just like to thank everyone for their good wishes and kind suggestions, you have all been a great help and we are starting to understand Maui a little better. Please keep your experiences and suggestions coming, as they are a great help in creating the perfect honeymoon for us.
I would any day suggest south maui for a honeymoon. Quieter, and wider longer beaches. My vote goes for MAUI PRINCE HOTEL tough I myself have never stayed in a resort. But if I wanted to in Maui, I would choose this one. It%26#39;s more of a very upscale hotel rather than a resort. Very quiet and beautiful unlike Hilton Waikaloa in Big Island which was so crowded and like a zoo when we went there for diving lessons.
Have fun.
