Okay, First time in Hawaii, Kauai.
Need help, what are the best things to do. We are taking a nanny to help w/ babysitting and some home cooking during the day because both families are on a budget, and we figure we needed her for babysitting. Please give any feedback on what would be the best trips to do w/ children and no children.
Should we leave the kids w/ her and have a double date?
Not convenient, what am I forgetting.
HELP,
Sincerely, Desperate parent hoping to have some fun and relaxation.
Need HELP%26gt; 1st time in Kauai. 2 families, 2 toddlers.I also wanted to give anyone and everyone the dates so you can post asap. I will be leaving the 19th, flying from LAX.
Any ideas on how we can keep the toddler%26#39;s bussy. They are both 2 years old.
Thank you.
Need HELP%26gt; 1st time in Kauai. 2 families, 2 toddlers.Kauai Children%26#39;s Discovery Museum has a toddler%26#39;s play area. Educational toys etc. It%26#39;s in the Clocktower by Safeway in Kapaa. Must be one adult along at all times. Never know whos kid could be in there. I ran into Ben Stiller with his daughter.
Lydgate park play area is fun for kids. 2 yr olds might be too young for it though. The rock pool there should be safe for very small kids in the shallow areas. You guys could snorkel a little and just lay on the sand. Or walk a couple of miles down the beach and back. BBQ pits, tables all available. There is also a walking trail suitable for strollers. good spot for a cheap beach day. BYO all the way just like the locals do. Can be a bit windy.
Same sort of stuff available at Poipu beach park except maybe the bbq%26#39;s.
Obviously no small kids on helicopter trips or the boats out to the Na Pali. I wouldn%26#39;t take them hiking either at the toddler stage.
dave - have they cleaned up the Lydgate beach? When I was there in late August, it was filled with driftwood, and I mean filled!
desperate parent - hang on there, you%26#39;ll soon be in paradise! Well, I would make sure I have the Ultimate Kauai Reveled guide, as it does list the best beaches for small children. Stop at Walmart/Kmart and get them some fun beach toys (you can leave/donate them when you fly out if you don%26#39;t want to haul them home) Slather with sunscreen/hats and have a good time on the beach. I loved hiking with my kids - with them in a good quality back pack - then you aren%26#39;t so limited, but if that isn%26#39;t your scene, there are plenty of other activities you can do on Kauai. If I were dining with my kids, I think I would go fairly early in the evening . . .less crowded and a bit easier if they are fussy. Have plenty of snacks and water where ever you go - the little bananas on the island are perfect for kids. :) I would just plan on keeping it simple with the kids and then plan for a few day or night excursions since you are bringing the Nanny - maybe a nice dinner or two out or a luau.
Best of luck! :)
We are going to Kauai in less than a week with a 13 months babygirl and no nanny. Surely, you can have lots of fun and enjoy the kids as well. We are flying from the East coast, at least your flight is shorter.
Relax and also take lots of pics of your little one in Hawaii ;), everyone says they grow too fast.
I think Poipu beach park has grills. Anini Beach is a great place for toddlers, and there are luas, tables and grills.
sorry coalminer, we rarely go to lydgate any more. especially not to the crowded end where the activity is and where all that debris was.
It%26#39;s 12 whole miles...... and we pass too many nice beaches on the way. We did go down by the Kamalani bridge on Labor day. There was some driftwood but not anything out of the ordinary.
We took our son when he was about 21 months and I was prego with our daughter. We stayed in the Poipu area. We took him to Poipu beach and the beach next to the Beachhouse Restaurant. There is a neat playground at Poipu Beach Park that isn%26#39;t too crowded. Definately go out to dinner at least once without the kids. We drove up to Hanalei with our son. He enjoyed our stop at Duane%26#39;s Ono Burger because of the cats and loved checking out the chickens. We also took him up to Koke%26#39;e State Park but only went on short, very short hikes. He had a diaper change at Kalalau lookout and saw his share of nene birds. He really fell in love with the swimming pool. I will say that I would not have the nanny take the kids in a pool by herself. This is one of those activities where parents need to actively supervise because drownings happen to quickly. Some toddlers like the ocean and some are quite scared but all of them love playing in the sand. Pick up some cheap sand toys at Walmart. What we really missed was hiking the Awa awa pui trail. Way to steep. We%26#39;ll have to wait to return to Kauai until our kids are about 10/12. Too heartbreaking not to see the most breathtaking sites in Kauai. If you do any paid excursions, leave the kids behind. Snorkeling, have your sitter supervise the kids on the beach. And give your sitter some time to herself as well.
