car rental for one day?

We are leaving for Maui in 2 weeks. Plan on doing the Road to Hana. we are staying at the westin and just wondering if anyone knows if you can rent a car for just one day with the help of the hotel or would you have to contact the car rental co. directly? Any feedback would be great! we were going to rent the car for the entire time but the only thing we really want to do is the Road to Hana %26amp; go into Lahaina which we figured we could take a cab. Any thoughts? Thanks!

The concierge at the hotel can arrange it for you. If you are renting the car for one day ... you might consider doing the road to Hana on the weekend and keeping the car for the entire weekend (then you can use it for Lahaina, too) Most car rental companies offer weekend rates (not sure how it will apply in Hawaii, but it might.)

Personally I would prefer to have a car the whole time ... cabs will get expensive if there is anywhere else you want to go, even to eat, see another beach, etc.

tiffsix,

I too would agree with renting the car the entire time, too many beautiful beaches and other things to see %26amp; do to miss without a car if it is at all possible. My wife went with a group about 10 years ago and the group(from a local hospital) went to 2 islands and they did not rent a car. We have since been back several times and she so regrets not getting a car as she said she really had no idea how much they missed and she was nervous that they would not be able to find they way around and she said that too would have been easy.

I agree with the others.

I stayed at the Westin too....and rented a car for the whole 10 days we were there....thank god! We used 9 days out of 10!!!

You need a car for:

- shopping at Walmart or Costco after arriving in Kahului

- driving from the airport

- road to hana

- drive up the top of Haleakala (gorgeous sunsets or sunrise)

- going shopping in Lahaina

- all the best snorkelling tours leave from Maalea and not from Kaanapali so you need to drive there....

- visiting the island...

If you do not rent a car, you will be missing alot!!

We had a rental car the whole time we were there but on the day we did Hana we wanted something a bit more ';strudy'; so we rented a jeep for the day through dollar rental. I think it was around $60. We did book it through the travel rep. that was in the lobby at the place where we stayed.
