We booked here expecting a nice , average hotel. We were only going to be in Hilo for 3 days and wanted to spend less than we normally do . It even was rated the same as other Hilo hotels on the internet .
It was shocking to get to the room and see what I was paying for. Outdated everything, carpet, mattress, decor, furniture worn out !!
Now , we are not ';snooty '; people and do not stay at the Ritz , but this hotel leaves alot to be desired. We did not even want to take our shoes off or touch anything, for us , it was that bad.
We checked out in 30 minutes and checked into another hotel.
Hilo Seaside Hotel a disappointment
The Hilo Seaside is a non-star hotel, you should have asked questions here first, we have KK and Echo answering with expert knowledge about Hilo on TA. BTW, I always say ';Friends don%26#39;t let friends stay in a hotel in Hilo.';
Hilo Seaside Hotel a disappointment
LOL!!!! Friends don%26#39;t let friends....
you should have heeded the reviews on Trip adviisor.........There is not one even normal hotel in hilo.......all are dumps and as TT said, '; friiends dont let friends stay in hilo.'; Most ,if not all are one step above a homeless shelter.
Your choice is bad to very very bad....... there are 2 things to do in hilo and one of them is leave..............
So where can my husband, adult daughter and I stay the night of October 21st? We didn%26#39;t know the Ironman was this weekend when we booked the interisland flight. The bed and breakfasts are either booked or want a two night minimum. The only place I can find that slightly sounds ok is the Castle Hilo Hotel and we could book a superior room.
Will we end up walking away after we see the room?
I forgot to mention that we will be at the volcano all day and evening and need to stay somewhere in the Hilo, volcano area. We leave for Kona the next day.
Not all B%26amp;Bs require a two-night minimum stay, I stayed at The Inn at K'; for one night once. (waterfall.net) Based on your plans you should include Hawaiian Paradise Park and Keaau to stay at. However, that weekend will be busy on the East side, many locals escape the zoo in Kona that weekend to stay on the East side.
I have emailed Inn at K to see if there is an opening. I am concerned about some of the poor reviews the inn has received but will trust you!
Thanks for the quick response.
The hotels in Hilo are on state lease land and the leases and hotels are what they are due to real estate market conditions and the bidding process by which leases are awarded. Complain to the Board of Land and Natural Resources!
The hotels are not luxury hotels and you get what you pay for so don%26#39;t skimp just because you can. Get an oceanview deluxe room if offered.
If you check out the B%26amp;Bs in Hilo many of them are located on unique properties worth over a million dollars and are well kept and family run. Prices do vary and reflect the property location and facility and services. Again, you get what you pay for so expect to.
There is usually a two night minimum and definitely no smoking rooms at B%26amp;Bs but sometimes you can get a room for one night if you call the day before (and not at the last minute), and ask politely. (You are asking the Innkeeper to take a chance that a better booking won%26#39;t appear, do lots of work for little payback, and to give up that much needed break...).
At the moment Hilo is experiencing a high volume of visitors who come to see ';Old Hawaii';, waterfalls and the Hamakua coast, Volcanoes National park, Mauna Kea, East Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden, the farmer%26#39;s market, etc. The average visitor stays 3-4 nights to see East Hawaii island from a convenient location near restaurants and shopping (the locals love to eat out and the restaurants prices are very reasonable).
You need to book early whether in a hotel or a B%26amp;B or you won%26#39;t find a room in the inn... and will have to drive a long way instead of enjoying quiet time over sushi and a beer or strolling along Hilo Bay.
Mamarosa, trust the reviews !! Innkeeper is right about the variety of nice B%26amp;Bs in Hilo. Again, trust the reviews.
