Kauai in Dec?

I have booked a trip to Kauai in Dec but after some research it seems that Kauai may not be the best in Dec. I really want to see the Napali coast and snorkel. This will be my first time to kauai but I am stuck with Dec. I have been to mauai and oahu and love them both. I was going to spend a few days in maui at the end of this trip. I just dont want to spend 12 hrs on a plane and be disappointed and not be able to enjoy Kauai as much as I would another time of year. We will be staying at the marriott near the airport. We got a one bedroom timeshare as a gift for this dec!!!! any suggestions or advice?? Should we postpone or is Kauai beautiful all the time??

Kauai in Dec?

Hmmm..you plan to come to Kauai in the winter, and want to snorkel the Napali ??

One thing, most of the boat tours can change their programs if the seas come up, as they might. Yep, WHALE WATCHING, is plan B.

By the way, snorkeling is NOT the main attraction of a Napali tour.

At any time, at least for experienced snorkelers. The majestic napali coast itself, water falls, sea caves during the calm seasons, dolphins, whales and turtles are the main deal.

We have done 8 Napali tours and loved everyone of them, but if snorkeling is a priority , we head to the beaches. North shore best in the summer, but in december, you might try the south shore.

Of course, before entering the ocean , you should always check out the conditions no matter what time of year it is.

And, you can never tell, what the weather kahuna has planned, you might find the weather sunny, and totally beautiful. Or, it may be cloudy and rainy. Princeville averages about 7.3 inches of rain in dec, while Poipu has about 3.6 inches in dec.

As far as postponing your trip, that is really your call. None of us can control the weather, so our predictions could be totally off.

However, we always, as visitors, came in june and july, since that appeared to be fairly low in rain averages reported in the UKG. Which we really did study prior to planning our vacations.

Kauai in Dec?

December can be nice. But it can also rain hard. 2 years ago we had about 15 inches in one day jan 1st. no exaggeration. This past year Dec was dry as a bone. El Nino gives California lots of rain, I%26#39;m going to guess that means more rain for us too.

If you can shift the dates to Nov or out to April/May I%26#39;d do so. It%26#39;s not worth the risk if you have an option.

Odds are you%26#39;ll have good weather. And you can be rained out in any season. Had relatives get soaked for a whole week one July.

I know that doesn%26#39;t help, but it%26#39;s the tropics. You take what comes.

Is the Napali coast on the north side? How is the south side during late Jan?

Thanks!

It took three trips to Kauai to finally boat NaPali coast, but I don%26#39;t regret that. It was Oct when we did it. We were there in Dec and though we could not boat it drove to top and some of the more brave of us took helicopter tour.

My wife not all that impressed with snorkeling Na Pali anyway where boat stopped. She is no expert, but she enjoyed BI sites more. and even other Kauai sites. Ke%26#39;E beach for one Poi Pu

I would never give up trip to Kauai cause Na Pali coast boat ride not available. Maybe next year we can sit around beach more, but probably not, so much to do there.
