lei greeting and itinerary ?'s

Hopefully this first question is not TOO ignorant....But after seeing the tradtitional ';lei greetings'; on Hawaii do they really do that?

Secondly, we (husband and 2 kids ages 10 %26amp; 14) are arriving from NJ on Sat night. We have 2 full days (Sun %26amp; Mon) and are then flying to Maui. Considering jet lag in the equation, is it possible to do Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head and something to see the North Shore sights in 2 days and if so how? Is there any other things we shoud try to see in Oahu before moving to Maui?

We%26#39;re staying at the Resortquest Wakiki Beach Tower if that helps for logistics and we%26#39;ll have a rental car. Thanks so much!

Yes you can get a lei greeting, for a price of course. Just google lei greetings honolulu for some choices.

I think you will find jet lag isn%26#39;t that big a problem once you arrive in paradise. For Pearl Harbor it is best if you arrive early since you will need a ticket to go out to the memorial. Not sure what you plan on doing at Diamond head, if it is climb the top well it is a long hike. If it is just to see it, it can be seen from Waikiki Beach. The north shore is a couple hour drive (traffic permitting) and there are many beaches to check out.

I would do pearl harbor followed by the northshore and cirle around the island on monday to avoid traffic, so for sunday get up early due to the time change get buffet breakfast at dukes, next do the diamondhead hike- its fantastic- followed by surfing lessons for the kids and maybe a sunset sail or outrigger canoe ride. Also the free 6:30 hula show is just across the street from the Beach Tower. If you have any questions on directions ask the valet guys, they are very helpful with maps and advice.

Diamond Head hike - 40 minutes up, 20 minutes down. Stay on the top for about 15 minutes.

Arizona Memorial will take 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 hours

Also National Cemetery of the Pacific %26amp; Tantalus

Hanauma Bay%26#39;s been very calm and clear lately and fairly close to Daimond Head (east on H1) if you and your kids are into snorkling it may be better than anything you%26#39;ll get in Maui (and maybe the easiest place to learn on Oahu)? (it%26#39;s closed on Saturday). If you hike Diamond Head you want to get there early! The Kona Brewing company in Koko Marina in Hawaii Kai is a lunch favorite of mine just past Hanauma Bay on the way back to Diamond Head.
