Which Sunset Cruise? Dinner vs. Cocktail?

A former Maui resident recently advised me to avoid tourist-trap luaus and instead splurge on one really nice sunset dinner or cocktail cruise. She recommended the Pacific Whale Foundation, which I%26#39;m familiar with, but I%26#39;m looking for something romantic (preferrably not a boat full of kids and families), good quality food, and booze-included. Recommendations?

We went on the Maui Princess a couple years ago and would not suggest them. Everything was just OK.

We enjoyed the luau...wasn%26#39;t tourist trap feeling...but fun. We had good quality food and cocktails and entertainment.

Sorry! I wasn%26#39;t ignoring you...i was lurking in the off-topic forum...wild.

Anyway, we went to the Sheraton Luau cuz we stay at the Kaanapali Beach Hotel and we could walk there (and crawl home) ;-)

I%26#39;ve read reviews and I%26#39;m still more interested in a dinner cruise... can anyone else help?

I don%26#39;t have any first-hand experience for you--yet. *g* My husband and I are booked on the Kapalua Kai for our last night in Maui in late October. What we did was got to www.tombarefoot.com and check out all the options there. We narrowed it down to two that we thought sounded good to us (the other was the Terapani, I think), then I called Tom Barefoot%26#39;s to ask questions before making a final decision. The rep I spoke to, Andreas, was very nice and answered all my questions. He was helpful, without being at all pushy. (BTW, Tom Barefoot%26#39;s can help with booking all kinds of activities/cruises, often offering discounts--we got a10 or 15% one for our sunset sail--so it%26#39;s worth checking them out.)

Since that time, I%26#39;ve seen several messages where people have praised the Kapalua Kai, so I%26#39;m thinking it%26#39;s going to be a beautiful way to spend our last night in Maui.

I%26#39;ll let everyone know how it turned out when I get back and write my trip report.

PS-Forgot to mention that we opted for the cocktail cruise, rather than a dinner cruise. We figured we could have dinner afterward at someplace nice if we were hungry. Also, since we%26#39;ll be staying at the Sheraton, we liked the fact that the Kapalua Kai boards right from Kaanapalii beach.
