My wife and I are all booked for our first trip to Kona, the first 2 weeks of May. We have booked a condo at Casa De Emdeko and have also booked a car. We are active travellers in our early 50%26#39;s who enjoy a variety of things. Our only drawback is that my wife has mobility problems. She can walk comfortably on flat terrain, and must rest often, but has problems on stairs or inclines. Can we see the sites at VPN or the Waterfalls without long hikes. What other things can you recommend for someone with mobility problems who wants to see as much as we can. Thanks for any assistance.
Big Island Activities
Take a circle island tour that does a lot of short stops.... and the both of you can enjoy.. The walks in the park and waterfalls are I fear might be a bit too taxing from you description You could try, but take it slow Consider an air tour as well ,since it will show you the best with out taxing her.
Big Island Activities
My Mom is in the same boat as you wife is. I posted the following here about two weeks ago.

My Mom can%26#39;t walk much so we did lots of driving. We drove up North, stopped in Hawi (she loves little stores) and drove to the Polulu Valley Overlook. Took the Kohala Mountain Road to Waimea and visited the Parker Ranch Museum. Drove to the Waipio Valley Lookout. We stopped at the Laupahoehoe Train Museum on the way to Hilo and veered onto the Scenic Drive before going to Hilo. After the Tsunami Museum and Rainbow Falls we drove to Volcano, stopping at the Macadamia Nut Factory, Sharky%26#39;s Coffee Farm and Akatsuka Orchid Garden along the way. We spent the night at a B%26amp;B in Volcano and spent the morning in the VNP the next day. We drove back to Kona going South, stopping at the Volcano Winery, Punaluu Black Sand Beach, Punaluu Bakery, South Point and Place of Refuge.';
Karateguy,
Are you flying into Kona? There isn’t a jetway there, and your wife will have to navigate the mobile stairs. If you are flying into Hilo there is a jetway and an elevator to get to the first floor. If you are flying into Kona, I believe if you contact your airline they can arrange a lift to help get passengers down w/o the stairs.
Once on the island so many of the waterfalls and viewpoints have trails that lead to them. Rainbow falls has a new long smooth ramp, but Akaka is about 1000 feet loop if I remember correctly, with some moderately steep decline/inclines and stairs. Waipio has a long sloping trail that can be walked if one takes it easy. HVNP has much hiking and much that can be viewed from the car.
I second the aerial tour, it will give your wife the most bang for the buck.
Good luck and happy travels!
Thanks for all of your great suggestions. My wife will try and do almost anything, she hates to admit her limitations. What%26#39;s a good swimming beach and snorkle beach close to our condo.
About 3 miles south on Alii driive is kahalulu beach park.
