An incoming visitor wants me to take her to Spago%26#39;s, anybody know what the Kamaaina Deal is there? I hear 50% off? What%26#39;s with the pathetic reviews for Spago%26#39;s on this board...real or imagined?
Thanks,

Spago's Kamaaina Deal? Pathertic Reviews?
Oh it%26#39;s real my friend -
My husband and I and another couple went to Spago last July while staying at the Four Seasons. We were in Maui for a week and Spago was the worst meal we had, i%26#39;ll go even further and say it was the worst meal i%26#39;ve ever had.
We each ordered a different dish, none of us were happy with the taste or the presentation of our meals, nothing was really warm, I think it had been sitting for a while. Mine was a fish dish, Uku (?), it was a small piece of dry fish on top of some grilled (under cooked) onions topped with a ';spicy thai sauce';. This spicy thai sauce tasted like a bottled bbq sauce that you could get in a grocery store - it was disgusting. I scraped off the sauce and still only ate a few bites of the dry fish.
I will say that the crab cake appetizer was good although it was extremely small, roughly the size of a half-dollar at a cost of $13 for one crab cake.
Dessert was also horrible. We all ordered pineapple upside-down cake the description on the menu made it sound so good - it was terrible. The sauce was burnt and the cake was soaked in liquor that wasn%26#39;t mentioned on the menu - it was inedible.
The wait staff is also very stuffy, service was very slow too. I asked for a non-alcoholic tropical drink and was told it couldn%26#39;t be done !????
So after spending over $150 on a meal for 2 my husband and I left Spago hungry - no joke!
The menu at Spago apparently changes frequently, the night we were there it was very limited - I found it very hard to decided on an entree, nothing sounded appetizing. There is a menu posted outside of Spago just off the lobby of the Four Seasons, check the menu before your reservations!
If you must go to Spago, I say go for appetizers and drinks only then on to another restaurant for dinner.
We also ate at Humuhumu, Nick%26#39;s, Mama%26#39;s, Tommy Bahama%26#39;s, etc. Would highly recommend every other restaurant that we dined at.
