can anyone inform me if they reccomend Haleakala Sunrise by bus or is it better to drive yourself?
Haleakala Sunrise
I don%26#39;t like doing anything by tour bus. Its a very easy drive to the top. We didn%26#39;t have any trouble at all. The slope of the road is gentler than I expected but there are some fairly sharp turns.
The main advantage of doing it yourself is that you can stop anywhere you want and leave when you want.
You need to get on top very early due to limited parking. I think we were there at 3:30 - 3:45 AM. It was also 38 degrees F. up there so you%26#39;ll need something to keep you warm.
If you%26#39;d like to see the pictures we took up there, let me know and I%26#39;ll post a link to our family web site. Its impressive to look down at sea level from 10,000 feet.

A tour to Haleakala Sunrise or Road to Hana is just a tourist trap. This is a very popular subject! Read some of the other posts (including mine) in this forum over the last couple of days, it will give you a lot of information.
Skip the tour - do it yourself.
Also, sunset is beautiful - and almost no one is there.
jojow, is it difficult to return after sunset, in the dark?
I would recommend a sunrise on your own.
We drove up, then (after the sunrise, which was absolutely stunning) hiked around, had a snack, and headed down for the zipline. After the zipline, we had an amazing lunch at Mama%26#39;s Fish House in Pa%26#39;ia
