we are new to maui(usually travel to mexico) and wondering what we should do for spending money. we are coming from canada so should we bring american travellers cheques or is there a lot of atms around to use? We are staying at the Kaanapali shores and the Hyatt. Also my husband wants to know where to get the best prices on beer and what kind of beer to drink. Thanks!
travellers cheques
You%26#39;ll find plenty of ATMS. We never carry more than $100-200 cash and mostly use a credit card and hit the ATM%26#39;s.
There are a couple or three good beers made on BI; Kona Gold is one, and something like Fire Lager.
travellers cheques
Oops, forgot: You should be able to find an ATM in the airport if you can%26#39;t change for maybe $100 US at home. You%26#39;ll want to be able to tip the shuttle driver if you%26#39;re not renting a car.
Travelers checks are always a good idea. just in case you leave your wallet somewhere by mistake. ATM%26#39;s are everywhere in Lahaina.
I must say we have always felt safe anywhere we have went in Maui. You always hear of cars being broke into, I%26#39;m sure it does happen. But never to anyone I have talked with. Just my opinion but I feel that it is over exaggerated.
Beer, are you asking in a restuarant or carryout? If you have a condo or room with fridge you can buy at good prices anywhere. Costo, safeway and all the markets that are around. Cannot remember if they sell in convenient stores that also sell gasoline. Being from the lower 48 (Indiana) the beer prices are higher but in my travels to Canada I thought your prices were way high. PS.....Budweiser and Miller here $13.99 - 24 can case.
We just use credit cards and get cash as cash back when we go to Walmart, maybe $60 at a time. There are few places that won%26#39;t take a credit/debit card. You can also get cash back at grocery stores (we hate paying fees). Now, I%26#39;m assuming that the system is similiar for Canadians - your debit card works like an ATM. And of course, a credit card will give you the best rates. Now is a good time to check your credit card and make sure it doesn%26#39;t charge you extra or do something goofy when you buy in foreign currency. I read somewhere that some carsd are doing this.
If you mean beer at grocery stores, we get beer at Costco at a good price, but also at grocery stores. Ben likes to drink local Hawaii beer while there., but drink whatever you like.
