My husband and I are travelling to Hawaii on 5 April for our first trip from the UK with our 2 daughters aged 9 and 6 (should hav been for the U2 concert before it was postponed). We would like to take a sunset cruise (preferably without food) and wondered if anyone could recommend a reputable tour company.
Sunset Cruise
If you are staying in Waikiki, just walk along the beach and you will find many catamarans, you can sign up with them the day you want to go or maybe the day before. Most of them cruise past Diamond Head. Don%26#39;t forget your camera, you might see dolphins or whales if they are still around. Have fun!
Sunset Cruise
we love sunset cruises, best activity on waikiki, great way to end the day, you get a beautiful view of waikiki and diamonhead and we will meet some nice people plus they have the cheapest drinks, either included or $1 to $2. On our last trip we were fortunate to run across a baby humpback whale with mother that was only a few hours old the was breaching for several minutes, that was pretty lucky don%26#39;t expect it on your trip. All the sails leave the beach on waikiki and sail past diamonhead and last 1 - 1/2 hours. If you are a little concerned with ocean travel you can also go during the day when it is usually less windy, it gets pretty windy once you pass diamonhead. This is real sailing, they turn off the motors once pass the surf line, these are also hang loose aloha type activities don%26#39;t expect a rehearsed show.
With little ones the Mai Tai is a good choice, it is a beautiful boat, and they are very well run. Look on the internet for $5 coupons. The Mai Tai is located at the Sheraton, it has the green sail. http://leahicom.verizonsupersite.com/aboutus/
Also good for little ones is the Mana Kai, nice boat, staff is a little more hang loose, they only do day sails but the price is a low $15. Located in front of the outrigger, it is red white and blue.
The longboards and locals favorite is the Na Hoku, $25 inculdes all you can drink, they always stay out the longest on the sunset sails. More of a party type atmoshere than the others. Located in front of the outrigger its the yellow and red boat.

Also available and good are the Reef at the reef hotel and the Keopeokai, the blue an white boat.
Other than the mai tai they all take cash only no credit cards, bring a camera pictures are great, for the sunset sails make a reservation during the day at the boat. The day sails you can walk on with no reservation.
Wow thank you for going to so much trouble to give me such detailed information - I really appreciate it. I have actually emailed the Mai Tai one as on the booking form I found it didn%26#39;t say where it left from. I will really look forward to this experience and will leave organising a sail until I get there. Thanks again for all the info.

Just got back from the HHV and we went on a sunset cruise on the Maitai Catamaran and we had a ball. Our 2 little girls loved it but a word of warning - don%26#39;t get dressed up as we did as we got soaked right through to our underwear and had to go back to the hotel to get changed before going out to dinner. However, after a couple of mai tais or champagnes you don%26#39;t notice how wet you are!!!
The crew were great and as we had originally gone for the cancelled U2 concert, my husband had his U2 t shirt on so the guys played their music most of the evening - luckily the rest of the guests on board approved!!!
What more can a girl ask for ... champagne, boat trip, Hawaiian sunset and U2 playing in the middle of the Pacific.
I will keep those memories with me forever now I have returned to rainy old England!!!
Seriously though, I can%26#39;t recommend this trip too much - book it and you will have a great time.
