Are there hidden fees?

Hello, I am looking into comparing a few hotels, and I came across the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani Hotel. I been to Miami Beach, and even after having been paid for the rooms, the front desk will say we have to leave a deposit of about $X amount of dollars a night, just in case we use any thing in the room, such as the phone, snacks, or others things not included in the room charge. I think they call it incidentals. Does this hotel charge you a deposit, and if they do how much per night or week? The reason I ask is because I hate going to a hotel and eventhough its paid already they either want a copy of your credit card to place a hold on it, just in case or you have to leave a $50-$100 deposit, and you get it back at the end of your stay. Some places don%26#39;t want to give it back. Can someone clarify this?

Also, how is this hotel in general, such as friendly staff, the hotel area, and are there and food courts, McDonalds, or other restaurants near by in walking distance? And do they have dolphins that appear near the beach? I seen dolphins when I went to Viginia Beach.

Sorry for all the questions.

Are there hidden fees?

Almost all hotels want a credit card for incidentals. I travel a lot for my job and I haven%26#39;t stayed at a hotel yet where I haven%26#39;t had to give them my card for incidentals. At some hotels, you can tell them you won%26#39;t have any and they will just keep your phone turned off and not ask for a card.

';Some places don%26#39;t want to give it back.';

If you didn%26#39;t use anything why would they not give it back....we call that robbery where I come from.

I meant that they want like anywhere between $50 to $100. I was asking if this hotel wants a certain amount by night or week. I rather ask you guys since some of you been there, than trust what one rep on the phone says. I don%26#39;t want any crap when I get there cause of mis-info.

I have been to resorts where they charge a ';resort fee'; that covers a number of things ... however, a deposit is something you get back at the end if everything is in working order when you leave and you didn%26#39;t take a nip from the minibar or order any hotel movies. (I rarely have had to leave a deposit -- I always have to give my credit card ... but I don%26#39;t know that I%26#39;ve ever had anyone place a ';hold'; on it.)

The Sheraton should not charge you any extra fee ... however, I would call them and ask to make sure. Parking will probably cost; internet access is usually for fee, too. Of course the phone is outrageous -- no need for that b/c you can use your cell.

I always use a credit card so this does not come up. I assume you mean you have prepaid, will pay in full when you arrive, or on a fully paid tour. This is a Sheraton and you should be able to get that info from them.

The hotel is across the street from the hotels on the beach. You have full access through those hotels (especially the Sheraton Moana directly accreoss the street), public right of ways or about 200 feet to the east where there are no more hotels, just street and beach.

There are a couple of turtle that show up in this area but no dolphins. There is a food court on the property (at the street corner) run by the Sheraton. There is a more varied food court in the International Market Place a short walk to the West.

The McDonalds in Waikiki all charge a premium. Outside of Waikiki the prices are more normal. The biggest food court I have ever seen is at the Ala Moana Shopping center. A short drive or bus ride to the west.

By the way. In Honolulu the directions are give as Ewa (toward the place named Ewa which is West of Honolulu), Koko Head (toward Koko Head crater which is East of Honolulu), Makai (always toward the Ocean which is South of Honolulu), Mauka (toward the mountains generally north of Honolulu).

Thanks. I will keep calling them til I make sure everything that they tell me is the same. This place sounds nice. I just hope since I registered as as Starwood Preferred guest that I could get a room upgrade to something with a ocean view.

We just stayed at the Sheraton Princess K back in March, early April(the dreaded sewage dump time). Our entire trip was a prepaid package. When we checked in, we left a credit card imprint for extra charges..that was the daily safe fee, and some phone charges. No surprises at all.

We are Starwood preferred guests as well, and were immediatley upgraded to a deluxe ocean view room.

To get that upgrade do you have to have certain amount of points and a card or you just tell them that you have a membership number? I don%26#39;t have any points. I have an email that they sent me with the welcome greeting and membership number.

Thanks.

The upgrade probably depends on what they have available and how many higher-level SPGs are already there.

If a hotel has a better room available than the one you reserved, chances are you will get an upgrade regardless of your SPG status or whether you even have a number.

If there are limited rooms available, you might have precedence over someone with no SPG number, but if there is a premium-level member checking in around the same time as you (within a day or so) they%26#39;ll probably get the available upgrades.

Number or no number, asking for an upgrade is always an option -- all they can say is no!
