My wife and I are planning a 5th anniversary in June. Why do so many places have no A/C? Seems odd....
Is A/C necessary in June?
I think it%26#39;s weird too. There%26#39;s no way I would stay on the coast without AC. We are very hot natured. We even get hot in the ac places. If you are at all hot natured, I%26#39;d look for AC.

there is a strong cool breeze off the ocean at night. We have been there in early june and only wanted the air on one night (between 4-6 while I was blow drying and primping) and shut it off later that night. Of course what%26#39;s cool for you may not be cool for me. I always like it cool in the house, and complain of heat exhaustion if it%26#39;s 72 or higher at night. I wouldn%26#39;t want to be inland away from the beach, but if you%26#39;re on the beach, I THINK you will be fine. Of course, listening to the waves at night is always motivator to keep the air off and the lani doors open too. : )
Most places I%26#39;ve seen w/o AC have ceiling fans. We live on the Oregon Coast where temps above 70 are rare and we were quite comfortable last November with the windows open and the ceiling fans on. Temps ranged from a low of 68 to a high of 86.

I think it depends on where you stay on whether you would be comfortable or not without air conditioning.
We%26#39;ve stayed in June and I wanted air conditioning--at least to sleep. We%26#39;re used to hot and humid weather, but I still prefer to be cool when I sleep!
I would recommend a place with A/C in the
summer months. My husband and I went to
Maui two yrs. ago when it was very dry in
the mts. There were grass fires on the
slopes and the smell of smoke would choke us
at night - the smell also seemed worse at night.
The highlight of our trip was a helicopter
trip to the waterfalls around the airport - it was just like being in heaven. This area
isn%26#39;t accessible by hiking or driving and I%26#39;ve not heard of anyone else who has taken
the trip (it was much neater than the helicopter trip on Kauai). Sandy
We stay in a ocean front condo in Kahana that has both ac and a ceiling fan. We never used the ac when we were in the room, as the ocean breezes kept everything comfy, but we would set the ac on low when we went out for the day. Kept the room cool; as all the doors and widows were shut and locked.
OK, the reason many places don%26#39;t have A/C is because electricity is very expensive and the owners don%26#39;t want to pay the A/C bill! As an owner, I know the pain of paying an electric bill that indicates guests have turned the thing on when they arrived and *never* turned it off.
I would never rent a place in HI without A/C.
DH and I almost never use the A/C at our Maui condo, but we are there in February. We have fitted our sliders with screw locks that permit a couple of inches of opening. We lock the sliders open and don%26#39;t even need the ceiling fans on. Our DS and DIL have visited our condo in July and they DID use the A/C to cool the place down, then turned it off at night and used the ceiling fans. They turned it off when they left and on again to cool down (in five minutes) when they returned.
It helps that we are on the ground floor, too. The condo above us has a ';first'; and a ';second'; floor (really a loft). It is hard to balance the A/C in such an arrangement.
