any suggestions?
Nice beaches NOT affected by the spill...
Be safe.
Forget about beaches on Oahu, at least for now.
To this advice I have received the following responses:
';That%26#39;s nonsense!
I was just at the beach and everything looks clean!';
or...
';The %26#39;Government%26#39; says ABC beach is just fine, but bacterial counts at XYZ beach are still high.';
...but I say that you should let your judgment fall on the side of caution on this issue.
People have DIED from bacterial infection recently, and of the two or three clowns in this forum who would imply that it is safe to go swimming, not one of them is ever going to tell you that you will be left with absolutely NO MEANS of legal recourse or financial recompense in the event that THEY are wrong
So, again, be safe.
Visit Kauai, Maui, or the Big Island, instead.
If it%26#39;s beaches you%26#39;re after, they鈥檝e got beautiful beaches there, too.
Nice beaches NOT affected by the spill...
furniture man, I am curious, why would only oahu beaches be affected, didn%26#39;t all the islands receive record rainfalls in march including the one with your illegal rentals.
Here is the latest, the kailua area and the area at the mouth of the canal are still problems.
Sewage Warning Still Up Around Oahu
Sewage warning signs are still up at several Oahu beaches from the windward side to south shores.
Test results from samples taken Saturday show dangerously high amounts of sewage at Kaneohe Bay, Kailua Beach Park, Bellows, and Waimanalo Beach Park.
On Oahu%26#39;s east side, signs are up in Wailupe from the Kawaikui Beach Park to the Waialae Golf Course.
Bacteria levels are high on the south shore at several locations, including the tip of Magic Island, Ala Moana Bowls, all along the Ala Wai canal and where the Ala Wai water enters the ocean.
The Department of Health expects some of those signs to come down with the results from samples taken yesterday. Those results should be released later this afternoon.
longboard,
I%26#39;ve written numerous posts on this.
With 1289 posts to your credit, I would think that you, of all people, would know how to use the search engine.
He%26#39;s looking for suggestions, not an argument.
I suggest a level IV chemical suit with a respirator for water sports that include submersion.
Finding child sizes will be the hard part.

It%26#39;s not all serious, otherwise I%26#39;d quit.
Also, anything else affected by sewage besides the Kahala Mall? i.e., any hotels, other parks affected?
haha
how did sewerage in waikiki turn so political ...
jodee ... %26#39;why sewage turned political%26#39;??
... consider ... 48 MILLION gallons of raw sewage running directly out of the canal and floating over to Waikiki beach (about three days of flow) ... the warning signs didn%26#39;t go up on the beaches for two days.
... consider one death and another person hospitalized from exposure ...
... consider ... the EPA had already fined the City of Honolulu for spills every year since 2000 ... and very little changes were made
BTW ... on the windward side Kaneohe and Waimanalo are still closed due to spillage over there. Strangely, Kailua (in between these two places) is not closed (well, it was voted the best beach last year).
teegee Did you leave already for your trip?
We just came back and the beaches in Waikiki on april 6th and 7th while we were there were not safe. They took the signs down, but read the newspaper. The bacteria counts are still very high (double or triple what they should be). They may be getting better now, but I would wait on swimming in Oahu. At least for a while. Since we wanted to snorkel, we went to another island.
Tourism is being promoted above everything else. If you read the local papers, they will tell you that a man died a horrible death from the sewage. There are several other locals in the hospital from swimming in Waikiki. Now, since I don%26#39;t live there, there may be a major improvement. So, please don%26#39;t blast me. If I were paying for a trip to Hawaii, which is not cheap, I would suggest going to another island right now and do Oahu a few months from now when the ocean has had time to clear it out more.
Now as far as beaches go, some said they were swimming up at the North Shore areas. Let us know what you do teegee.
hey
SUSS,
fair point about waikiki turning political.
what a shame
waikiki would have to be city of honolulus most thriving natural wonder, what would it take to protect? or make them care enough to protect it
JOD-I-E
Hi everyone. I had no idea about the spill! It%26#39;s a good thing I check here before every vacation. We%26#39;re planning a trip to Oahu May 10th. Do you think the beaches will be safe for swimming by then?
Thanks Kindly.
