Old Lahaina Luau

We know to book early for this so I am trying to decide what seating we should get. Those who have been, which do you think is better --traditional or table seating?

Thanks!

Traditional seating is right up front, and you%26#39;ll be looking up at the performers. Do it if your knees are good. I felt I had a better view from the stage end of the regular tables. You do want to be as close to center stage as possible.

I would get the table seating. We went last week and when we made reservations (2 months earlier) they told us we got the last 2 seats. Another poster said they book the tables according to the first reservation get closest seats to last reservation get farthest seats. We ended up having the farthest 2 setas from stage. Still they were not bad seats. I know you were not looking for a review but thought I would add it so not to be disappointed after your long anticipated wait. This was my first luau and had been to the islands 4 times. We decided to book after seeing a review on the travel channel and everyones comments here. We personally will probably never go to another one. The food was not good at all. The show was just OK and was very slow to start with --many breaks. The location was nice as it was ocean front and the drinks they served were good and not the cheap stuff. The staff was very knowledgable and friendly. It was intersting to see the imu ceremony and other cultural activities prior to dinner. If you go I recommend getting there when the doors open. Overall did not think it was worth the $210 (with tip). My review was not meant to stir controversy amongst all who thought it was a ';no-to-be-missed'; activity just my opinion I could have spent the $$ better elsewhere.

To me this is the best luau but I%26#39;m with most of the others that say one luau is plenty.

I thought the food was as good as, if not better than, any other lu%26#39;au or lu%26#39;au style meal I%26#39;ve had. I thought the show was excellent, but I%26#39;m really not into the hotel-hula-and-embarrass-the-tourists type of thing.

Hi. I have bad knees so know to avoid the traditional seating. Most reviews I have read say to avoid it if you ';grunt'; when you get up from a seated position and do I ever grunt! Did you learn if it is last seated last served at the buffet?

Hope you will post back with your experience at the OLL.

misnowbunny- want to thank you for your review. Appreciate your sharing it with us. I am still undecided as to whether or not to include a luau in my travel plan but Maui just seems like the right place to do it once if you are going to do it at all!

Happy Easter!

Even though we sat in the back one perk was that we were the very first table to the buffet. The rule was you could go get seconds after everyone in the place ate. We did not need seconds. I cannot compare food to other luaus as this was our first but the stirfry vegetables were completely raw and the meat was very dry. The best part about our experience was that we met a very nice group of tablemates that we ended up seeing a couple more times on the trip which also included a dinner invitation.

We went to the OLL last year and I really enjoyed it. My husband thought it was okay, but when planning for our return trip this year he has said it would be good to do it again (we probably wouldn%26#39;t do a luau again, but we are bringing my parents.) With that said I think I would have had a horrible experience with traditional seating. We had table seating and were in the first tables after the traditional seating. Trust me, I saw how uncomfortable those people looked. I would not recommend it.

If you are older, tall, have back or knee problems, I would not recommend the traditional seating. We were in the very first row, centre stage and the people in front of us, in traditional seating, were very uncomfortable. The one guy was 6 feet or taller and there was no place for him to put his legs.

p.s. We loved the luau especially the show.

We did the traditional seating (I was the first to book for that day, so we were right at the front and center). We are in our late 20s and do not have knee or back problems. Although, there were all ages represented in the traditional seating tables and nobody seemed to have a problem.

I would highly recommend this lu%26#39;au. We enjoyed it far more than the Feast at Lele.
