Access to Mauna Kea (Kaunaoa) Beach for non hotel guest

We are staying at the Colony Villas in Waikoloa and we want to try out a few beaches in the area. I%26#39;ve read that the Mauna Kea beach has only 10 (or 30 depending on the guide book) ';visitor'; parking spots at the hotel. I know that the beach itself is open to non-guest but is there somewhere else to park if I am not one of the lucky 10 to get a space at the hotel?

I would valet park my car at the Mauna Kea Resort - ostensibly to dine there - and have all the access I wanted without worrying about the alloted spots. Just cost you a coupla bucks.

Or you could park at Hapuna Beach and walk the mile to Kaunaoa, enjoying both beaches with one parking spot.

Someone chime in if this is not doable - but occured to me as two logical alternatives to hoping/praying for one of those parking voucher thingies...

Datedog,

You should have no trouble. I don’t remember the exact number of spaces but there were enough available the last couple of times I have been there, and as someone mentioned you may always valet park your car with the hotel.

Good luck and happy travels!

Mauna Kea Beach Hotel has 12 assigned parking stalls for beach goers and those are taken up in no time. You can still get in if you go to the real estate office, any of the shops or F%26amp;B establishments. Needless to say, visible beach chairs and coolers will not get you past the gate. Security is smart there and they will keep a tab your car if you are a ';suspect.';

There is plenty of parking at Hapuna Beach. It%26#39;s a great stretch of sand and a public park. Snack Shop has a local flavor.
