Can a local expert give us a update on the condition of Waikiki, Kuhio beach areas. Will greatly appreciate your help.
Beach Sewage updateThis my personal “local” experience: I took my family to Waikiki on Saturday. Played in the sand and went for a swim. I got a small cut on my foot from the reef and I cleaned it later that night at home. I have had no infections and everyone else is happy and healthy.
Beach Sewage updateAnd if you look at the web cams people are in the water too!sigh.. Wish I was there.
here is the link to the surfrider water quality report, this is the most conservative and informed organization concerning water quality around, they are independent and not trying to sell hotel rooms or newspapers or terrorize tourists, they just give facts. Currently they are recommending to use caution because it has rained within 48 hours, they use this guideline for all beaches not just hawaii which shows you how careful they are because that would shut down all of hawaii for most of the year. Anyway if you look up waikiki you can see the bacteria testing levels were OK on the april 3 testing which was 2 weeks ago. Anyone who is familiar with surfrider knows that they would not print the OK if they thought the numbers were manipulated by the government. I know this concerns many people so I hope it helps.

thankyou longboard for a good site!!
Am I mistaken, or does Hawaii have stricter standards for water quality than other states. Looking at California%26#39;s standard, they are okay with 35 enterococci per 100ml sample.
Thank you all for your great info. We are planning a trip in July and didn%26#39;t know if we should switch islands, thanks again.
Yes Hawaii%26#39;s standards are much higher.
longboard,
thanks for that web site. that will make me feel better to keep an eye on the alert before we head over in august.
