Hi Guys just another pestering question, which is the best airport to fly into on the big island to get accomodation near the Volcano?

Hilo (ITO)is about a half hour drive from the park. Kona (KOA)is 2 to 3 hours away.

Best airport to fly into for Volcano

Accomodations for the volcano are best on the volcano. 30 minutes to the volcano from Hilo is correct. 2.5 hours from Kona via the southern route and 3.5 hours via the northern route through Waimea make Kona the lesser choice for volcano viewers.

If you are staying longer and looking for sunny days, turtles and sandy beaches, Kona is the place. You can take a slow drive and see the sights in the north during the morning, stay till dark, and drive the shorter 2 - 2.5 hour southern trip home.

Not sure where you stand on your ATA reservations, or interisland flight situation, but ATA routes include mainland USA direct to Hilo (but not Kona).

ATA is the only airline with direct flighs from the mainland to Hilo.
