What were those birds, and are they on all parts of Maui and the other islands too? I remember evey morning at dawn these guys would wake me up to a sound similar to the soundtrack they used in ';Psycho'; when Norman Bates would do the stabbing. Screech, Screech, Screech, Screech. The got us up every day that%26#39;s for sure.

common mynas, and yep, they%26#39;re common on all the main islands. my book says they%26#39;re at elevations below 5,000 feet.

We have Franklin Quail around our condo in Kihei that start the day with a call that sounds like someone working a rusty pump. There is a ';warm up'; portion and then they get into what sounds a bit like the Sat. Night Live routine: ';Cheeeeeesburger, Cheeeeesburger, Cheeeeeesburger.'; Is that what you mean, maui_now?
