Renting sleeping bags

We are planning to rent sleeping bags in Kauai (we are bringing tents but not sleeping bags). Looking online, I%26#39;ve found Kayak Kauai, in Hanalei. Since we would prefer to spend our first couple of days near Kokee and Waimea, does anyone know of another source, in the south or around Lihue?

aloha, Red....

Good question on sleeping bag rentals.

I found camping rental companies that might be able to assist you.

You already checked with Kayak Kauai, the other ideas are:

Outfitters in Poipu ( we rent bikes thru them, but , as usual, was not paying any attention to sleeping bags, or camping gear)

Try: 808-742-9667.

On Poipu Rd. across from the fire station. Yellow submarine ( miniature) is out front of the little shopping center. Makai side. Maybe 20 minute drive from Lihue.

Or just bring your own, since they are light weight.

Great ot hear that you will be camping and hiking. Super !!

I guess sleeping bags might be a bit bulky to haul from Mass, unless they%26#39;re down filled. We have a couple that squish into a really small space and then fluff right back up.

You could also pick up a couple of cheapies at Walmart or K-Mart when you get to Kauai and then either take them home or donate them to Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army or another organization. They%26#39;re always glad to get stuff that%26#39;s in good condition!

Agree with kwils...Walmart in Lihue sells bags and sleep sacks for around $18.00 that would be new, clean and yours, and easily disposed of. Recommend you bring or buy a ground cloth too because of the dampness that can wick up.

Thanks, everyone. Yes, the sleeping bags we have are bulky and probably warmer than we need (we%26#39;ll mostly be sleeping on the coast in Kauai and Big Island, although we might spend a night in Kokee lodge). Buying cheap ones from Walmart seems a good idea.

The Humane Society has a thrift store in Lihue.. that%26#39;s where I plan on donating anything that we buy there and don%26#39;t want to take back with us. :-)

My first thought when I read your forum heading was ';Ewwww.'; In my mind, renting a sleeping bag is like borrowing someone else%26#39;s toothbrush - just a little too close for comfort. I like the idea of buying some at Walmart in Lihue and then donating them before you leave - keep the receipt and you can deduct it on your taxes if you itemize. I just checked walmart.com and they have a mummy bag for $35 - not bad since you don%26#39; t really need the insulation.
