sheraton kauai nightlife

We%26#39;re hoping to stay in the Sheraton in Kauai in October. Weatherwise, is that the correct part of the island to stay in for that time of year? I would prefer to avoid rain showers.

Also, what is the nightlife like in Kauai and near the Sheraton? We%26#39;re not looking for anything too busy but would still appreciate somewhere to go relax in the evening.

Thanks

To avoid rain showers, the South side of the island (where the Sheraton is) would be best. You probably wouldn%26#39;t really have a problem anywhere in October, but if you want to play it safe the Sheraton is a very good choice.

The Sheraton has a nice bar called ';The Point';, and the Hyatt (more upscale) is only a five minute ride from the Sheraton.

Be sure to eat dinner one night at the Beach House. Make reservations several weeks early for a window table before sunset. Very nice views and outstanding food. Expensive, but it is worth it.

The Sheraton is a very nice hotel (at least in an oceanfront room), but very unpretentious. I enjoyed my stay there last week.

We found live Hawaiian music at keoki%26#39;s Paradise which is very near the Sheraton in the little shopping center in Poipu.

Keoki%26#39;s Paradise is also a nice place to eat dinner. Very reasonable prices for Kauai, and I thought the food was quite good.

Thanks very much for the replies, this information is invaluable. I asked a very well known travel agent here in Ireland about Hawaii and was told that they only deal with BI and she wouldn%26#39;t be able to tell me anything else.

FL410, you mentioned that the bar was only a five minute ride from the sheraton? Is this by car? Which brings me to my next question (sorry!) is the Sheraton within walking distance to the aforementioned restaurants etc?

Thanks again, we really appreciate the information.

Pippin,

Keoki%26#39;s Paradise will be just across the street from you if you%26#39;re at the Sheraton. The Hyatt is about one mile down Poipu Road in one direction, and the Beach House is about a mile in the other direction.

Take a look at this web site and click on ';maps'; to get a better idea of the area.

Also, you may want to get a copy of the ';Ultimate Kauai Guidebook'; by Doughty and Friedman. It%26#39;s an invaluable resource for visitors.

Visitors from the UK who have been, or are going to Kauai might have some good tips for you. I know U2fan (from Derby) is still around here, and sunhshine (from Edinburgh) is planning a trip for August.

Happy planning !!

Pippen,

Definitely get The Ultimate Kauai guidebook.

Googling it now! Thank you for all your help I really appreciate it and h2b is very impressed with my research skills ;o)

Pippen, top o the morning...and the rest of the day to you.

NIGHTLIFE and ENTERTAINMENT:

SHERATON: Beautiful glass lounge called the POINTE. Aroundsunset, they will generally have hawaiian music. Used to be in the lounge, last time the entertainers were just outside the bar in a large patio area. Lots of chairs and people. We opted for just relaxing in the lounge, and could still hear the music.

HYATT: Very nice hawaiian music and dance presentation on at the TERRACE ( happy hour)

Very comfortable lounge chairs to relax and watch the show...as you face the ocean and the beach. Drive is about 6 minutes.

STEVENSEN%26#39;S LIBRARY: Beautiful koa and other fine woods lounge, with live jazz a bit after the Hawaiian music presentation.

KEOKI%26#39;S: Check with them, they do have entetainment some nights. Keokis is great.

Get there early. Wonderful tropical south seas decor, and a happy atmosphere. We just eat the delicous and filing pu pu%26#39;s at the bar. Very reasonable, tasty, and fun.

The Sheraton at Poipu is on the beach, and you might want to drive up to Keokis at the Poipu Shopping Village.

Otherwise, you walk up a hill, and down a road quite a way in order to get to Keoki%26#39;s. Cars would be driving fairly close. No, we have not walked this, but do rent bikes and ride the area often. One trip, we rented bikes from OUTFITTERS for a week, and did a lot of peddling of the south shore.

ROBS GOOD TIME BAR AND GRILLE: Rice street in Lihue ( a way down rice street,RIGHT HAND SIDE, in a very small shopping center. It might be called the Lihue Center...not positive. If you get to Kress street you missed it by about 30 yards or so. Just do a 180, and turn into the older looking center.

They are local, and visitor, and have different music themes on different nights.

This is a fun pub. Not touristy, more local flavor.

WEATHER: Good choice. For 13 years we have stayed at Poipu, and when the sun is bright up north, we just hop in the car, and take that beautiful drive. Dont miss the lovely north shore beaches, the hanakapiai trail, and Hanalei Town. Lots of other north shore sites....so check out your UKG.

You will be having a fine and wonderful visit.

We rented a condo by the Hyatt and you can easily walk the ';green space'; sidewalks from across the street from I from Brenneke%26#39;s beach to the Hyatt, they are lit up by landscaping lights at night. You might want to walk to the Hyatt during the day so you get familar w/ walk, it is pretty much a straight shot We never drove from the area of the Hyatt to areas around the Sheraton. You may want to drive to Beach House I do not think the sidewalks are lit up at night and it is pretty dark.

Hi pippen2006

As Kwils has mentioned, I%26#39;m still lurking on this forum. Hubbie and I visited the Hawaiian islands last year and totally fell in love with Kauai (the best island by far, in my opinion)!

We travelled with Archers Direct, although many other UK operators also also go to Hawaii, e.g. Page %26amp; Moy and Virgin Holidays. If you%26#39;d like any more information, or to borrow my Kauai Releaved, you%26#39;re more than welcome to email me at cathypower2003@yahoo.co.uk.

Enjoy your holiday!
