Hello!
I am trying to plan a day where my husband can golf while I go to the spa.
I have discovered 3 logical choices for golf, but I know nothing about the sport so cannot decide which he would like better.
Kapalua - Bay, VIllage or Plantation Courses - Most expensive. Hubby saw these in a magazine....voted #10 best course in the country. We are staying at the Sheraton so not sure what spa I would do...I guess he could take the car and I could stay at the Sheraton spa....any other ideas?
Wailea - Blue, Emerald or Gold courses - these are pricey, but would be convenient for me to drop him off and spend the day at the heavenly Grand Wailea Spa....where I am sure I would spend just as much $....or more. :)
Kaanapli - North and South Courses - least expensive since we are staying at the Sheraton, but I get the impression they are not as nice?
What would you do? Has anyone golfed these courses? I would like to base the decision on best views and nicest course for the value.....not just price alone. Ocean views are a must on the courses. I would like to get a lomi lomi massage and maybe a facial or something and get out for $250 or less.
Thanks!
Jenni
Golf Courses Question
I%26#39;ve golfed all of these courses. I think all the Kapalua courses are best. But they are tough and windy. You could go to the Ritz Spa. The Wailea courses are next. I think the Kaanapli courses are more for beginner/intermediate golfers and I have heard they are not in that great of shape right now. My husband and I are playing the 3 Kapalua courses everyday for a week.... so that really tells you what I think.
Golf Courses Question
Kaanapali North course is closed for renovation, I%26#39;m playing the south course on Tues. $140.00 for non-resort guest if in the am(95.00 mid-day special). I also am going to work in a round at Kapalua as well but have not scheduled as yet. I%26#39;ll post opinions when I get back.
davebi - thanks for the tip on the North Course
bigmac - Did you rent clubs at the Kapalua courses? I could not find a price for this on their site. I saw that they were $50 at the other places.
Also, this may be a dumg question, but do the fees include a golf cart or is that additional $?
sorry for obvious crappy typing. :)
Jenni,
The price should include cart fee. The course you choose probably will depend on how avid a golfer your husband is. I would consider myself an intermediate player who really loves the sport. I personally would choose the Kapalua Plantation course. The PGA tour hosts an event here each February. It is not everyday that you get to play a course that the pros play on a yearly basis. The course will obviously be tougher but the views are probably spectacular. I will be visiting in December and will not leave before I play this course. Just my opinion.
Thanks for the tip! We are going to Maui courtesy of my husbands frequent flier miles and hotel points that he accrues traveling for business. So I guess he deserves THE BEST golf course. That is nice to hear about the Kapalua Plantation course. Especially since the fee for that one is $185 versus $250 for the Kapalua Bay and Kapalua Village courses.
By the way, my husband is an avid golfer. He tries to go out almost every weekend in the summer.....lots of good courses here in Michigan. So this will make his day when I show him what I have planned for him. Thanks!
Aloha-
I am also trying to plan a trip to the spa while my hubby golfs and have been researching both spas and golf courses. We are also staying at the Sheraton. When are you going?
From my research, we were thinking the Wailea courses or the Kapalua ones would be nice. I had read an earlier very negative review on the Kaanapali course and how disappointed the golfers were. My thinking also is that the course MUST have an amazing view...
By the way, I found out that the municipal course (though not close) has great ocean views and is a nice one..
I still have not decided for sure on the best spa after reading various opinions. The Grand Wailea, 4 Seasons or Hyatt are the three better ones and I had narrowed it down to the Hyatt after reading many reviews on another site. Any other golf or spa ideas? Mahalo
Municipal Course you say? Hmm...defintely will check into that one.
The reason I love the Grand Wailea Spa is that every massage comes with one hour of hydrotherapy (different herbal and mud baths I think), which sounds awesome!
So if hubby golfs at the Wailea courses, I go to the Grand Wailea Spa and then it might be nice to have dinner down there. The one flaw here is that he would probably want to shower first before dinner, so I guess it would be just during the day.
If he golfs at Kapalua - more expensive for him, but hey, he deserves it. From an above poster reply I checked out the Ritz Carlton Spa and it sounds really nice and they have some great combo massages it sounds like. Plus Kapalua is closer to the Sheraton so it would be easier to go ';home'; and change for dinner and nightlife.
We are going to be there 7/3 - 7/12......not soon enough as I sit in my cubicle day dreaming of Maui like some commercial!
We bring our clubs when we go to Maui. $50 for rental sounds about right. I agree the Plantation is the best. We have played it 4 times, it is wonderful. I have also played the muni and its a great buy, but if you are wanting a special treat for your hubby I%26#39;d say Plantation. I am staying at the Ritz week after next. I%26#39;ll go to the spa and report in. I%26#39;ll just tell my husband I have to do a report for the forum. Frankly, my guess is the Wailea Spa is the better of the 2, so you have a real problem - ha. Better golf vs better spa. I wonder which one will win?!
