Hi can anyone give me information on Kahana, How the water is? looking at renting a condo and I am a beach nut, but don%26#39;t like to surf and information would help. Kellie
Kahana
Aloha, we own/rent a condo at the Sands of Kahana and travel twice a year to stay so we know that the conditions change there. The beach is sandy and nice most of the time. On less windy days you can go snorkeling to some coral a ways out, kayaking, etc... On windy days you will find surfers out there. Kahana beach is about 1/4 mile long which is nice for a walk.
It is easy getting in and out for just playing in the waves.
It is out of the way, so it not frequented by a lot of folks that aren%26#39;t staying at the condos there. The condos are as follows from the south: Kahana Beach, Sands of Kahana, Valley Isle, Royal Kahana and then Hololani.

Mauiguy, We are going in June of 06 and thinking of renting a condo @ Hololani Resort from vrbo.you were saying you have a condo you rent out? more information would be great
Kellie-jo - we have a rental starting June 7th for 8 nights so that wouldn%26#39;t work for you. We stayed at the Hololani once. It is nice, but not as nice as the Sands of Kahana. You more than likely will come and have a meal or drink at the Terrace Restaurant located at the Sands of Kahana. Our web site is www.mauicondo4rent.com you can find out more info on the area there - enjoy!
We%26#39;ve stayed in Kahana at the Hale Mahina.
Although the photos of our condo showed there to be a beach, in reality it was pretty small, and when the tide was in, the beach disappeared. It seemed like most of the Kahana area was the same - rocky coastline or very small beaches with seaweed problems %26amp; a bit rougher surf compared to some of the more-protected beaches nearby. Maui Revealed shows some condos in the Kahana area to have somewhat better beaches, but you may find yourself just driving to some of the terrific beaches that are close by.
Kahana is just a 5 min. drive up to Napili Beach, and another 5 min. from there to Kapalua Beach - both of which are fantastic. Ka%26#39;anapali Beach is about 10 min. south from Kahana.
Mauiguy, these are the dates we are looking for 6/11/06-6/20/06 that would be next June.Is the beach Rocky at the Hololani Resort.?
Here%26#39;s how Maui Revealed described it:
';..... All have good ocean views. You%26#39;re right above thin, sandy Kahana Beach (although it%26#39;s not a good part of the beach)';.

We too, will be staying at the Hololani, and it does look like there is some what of a beach there.(Maui Revealed book.) So what you are saying, is that, when it is high tide, there is no beach? Can you just sit or lay out on the sand there? We are going in June of this year, but I%26#39;m thinking we should fine something else! I would at least like somewhat of a beach!
thanks for you info
DJ -
There is more than just a sliver of a beach in Kahana beach. But when there is a really hide tide you may not be able to safely lay out on the beach, but it%26#39;s been my experience is that high tide is generally in the early morning and late afternoon when you are not likely to be wanting to lay out on the beach. The beach is not rocky in front of the Hololani.
Sundevil - By the way the Hale Mahina is not considered to be in Kahana, but rather in Mahinahina about 1/2 mile south and they do have a sliver of a sand beach.
I will share something else about Maui beaches is that they change. We go twice a year and we will go to a beach, i.e., even Kaanapali, and say wow I%26#39;ve never seen it this narrow %26amp; then come back in 4-5 months and see it double or triple in width. Storms come in and take sand out from one beach and deposit it in others.
If you like I will send you some photos of the beach there. You can find our email address on our website @www.mauicondo4rent.com
Mauiguy has it right. The beach widths fluctuate but do not disappear. Hawaii Beaches are public so you can stay at Hololani on the north and walk on the beach to Sands Of Kahana on the south in no time--or vice versa. Full disclosure: I live at my place in Hololani in the winter and rent in the summer. Kahana is really a neat neighborhood.
RTB, I am also going in the summer. and staying at the Hololani Can you tell me how far it is from the airport? And I will have two 20 year old girls with me will they be board at Kahana? This will be our first tip and we are big beach people any suggestions? thank you for your help.
