Need suggestion: Killing time before checking-in

We arrive around 11AM and our check-in is at 3PM. Originally we were just going to do our costco and grocery shopping before check-in but I%26#39;m concerned about having all of our stuff sitting in the car. So, we%26#39;re going to check in and get our stuff stashed away before going shopping.

So, long story short we have some time to kill in the car between arrival and check-in. Can anyone recommend a short driving tour?

We arrive at OGG and our condo is in Wailea.

We arrived at a similar time. We drove to Iao Valley, ate lunch, and then went to South Maui. We still had about a half hour before check-in, so we lounged on the beach for a while. The Maui Ocean Center might be a good way to kill an hour or two as well.

Why not go to Mama%26#39;s Fish House for lunch? They have valet parking and it seemed there was always a valet around looking out for the cars.

Man I hate it when I post twice!!

Also, when I was on Maui recently, I checked into both of the hotels where I was staying way too early and was surprised to find my room was ready. You never know, it could happen!

mackenson, call your hotel ahead of time to request early check in. Usually they may be able to accomodate you. If not, they have a room to hold your luggage in, until your room is ready.

You could drive straight to Wailea and drop your bags off early (even if you cannot fully check in.) Then you could explore the south shore beaches/shopping/eat lunch or you could drive north and visit Lahaina or Kaanapali.

Thanks for the recommendations. We%26#39;re staying at a condo through the owner, so the quandry is that we can%26#39;t really drop off the bags early (we won%26#39;t be checking in at an office) and the unit won%26#39;t be ready until check-in time.

So, we%26#39;re kinda%26#39; stuck in our car watching over our bags ;)

So, I%26#39;m just looking for a nice little drive, but I%26#39;m sure we could always drive aimlessly and see some great stuff. It is, after all, Maui.

Kaiwahine, our Maui expert, said that there is some place to store luggage in or near the airport. You could do that (or not)and then go to Iao Needle and Wailuku. Then you could go back and get the luggage and drive to the other side where you are staying. I don%26#39;t think this would involve too much back tracking or stress over leaving things in your trunk.

Maybe someone else could help with where to store your things.

I%26#39;ve heard a lot about break-ins at Iao Valley. I%26#39;m not sure I%26#39;d take all my stuff there. I woudl take the road around the northwest. Head toward Kihei and take the road towards Lahaina and keep going... all the way around. It%26#39;s absolutely beautiful. We always drive around it several times. From the airport all the way around, I figure 2-2 1/2 hours, maybe a little more. You%26#39;ll end up back in Kihei where you can then stop by Costco and Walmart and get what you need. Then you can go strainght to your condo and deposit everything in time to hit a beach.

You can go from Kahalui around the other way, but the road is narrow and I think it feels more secure when you are on the inside lane rather than the outside lane, especially when you have to pass.

It%26#39;s a beautiful road and a great way to jump in to the beauty that is Maui.

I second going to Mama%26#39;s Fish House for lunch first. We went straight from the airport when we arrived in Maui. After getting luggage, and a rental car it will be the perfect time for lunch and you%26#39;ll probably be hungry after a long flight.

Mama%26#39;s does have valet parking. We had no problem and our minivan was loaded with luggage for 6 people.

The atmoshpere and views at Mama%26#39;s are SPECTACULAR, the food is good, it%26#39;s a great way to start off your vacation. I think it was about 35-40 minutes from Wailea - someone correct me if i%26#39;m wrong. We were staying in Wailea too, got to the resort just after check in, it was perfect.

You can got to the Mama%26#39;s website to make reservations up to months in advance. They%26#39;ll ask you to call and confirm when you arrive at the airport.
