April Trip continued.
April 9-Up Early and for a walk, stopping to get wonderful gooey cinnemon rolls from Cinnemon Roll Fair. After breakfast we went to Lahaina to see what was new. Lots of shopping and lunch at Blu, place that replaced CafeO%26#39;Lei on Front St. What a view. The food was very good. The two previous trips we stayed at the Maui Islander so decided to see how the condo development was going. They certainly are a big improvement and should be very nice when completed. Priced reasonably for condos for sale. Trev was playing at the Kahale Beach Bar for Happy Hour so we stopped in. Met a couple of nice couples from Washington State. There was sort of a ';wake'; going on for a bar regular so after a couple of beers we left. Fixed sandwiches and went to Mulligan%26#39;s to see the Celtic Tigers. Since I play in a couple of Celtic bands in Vermont and had my concertina, was able to play a couple of numbers. Mrs.S. was happy to drink a shandy.
April 10-Up early. Walking. Off to Kahalui to have pictures developed at Wal Mart and to Makawao to get the shirt signed. Discovered about the donuts at Komodo bakery. They are terrific. The store doesn%26#39;t look like much but wow. There was a sign that said they were going to be closed from mid April until early May. Then to Paia to buy a shirt we should have bought for a friend when we saw it as well as a trip to the bead store to get my fish hook retied. Then decided to go to A Saigon Cafe for lunch. Always a treat and I thought it had been spruced up. Still no sign. Went swimming at Charlie Young Beach. Walked To Alexander%26#39;s for fish and chips. Thought the fish was really good, nice light batter coating. Have had better fries.
April 11-Up early. Walk. Spent a quiet morning on the lanai then off to pick up Trev to go to Lahaina and sign shanties with a friend of his. Trev belongs to the Lahaina Yacht Club so we sang there for a couple of hours and a couple of beers. Brught Trev back to Maalaea where he lives. Brief swim and off to Bada Bing. So-so antipasta. Good pizza. Fine service and the chickens running underneath the deck were a hoot.
April 12-Up early. Walk. Went to the beach for the morning. Tried to finish up food for lunch. Then back to the beach. Went to the Hailemaile General Store for dinner. Started raining on the mountain. Great Sashemi Napoleon, and house salad, which we shared. Mrs. S. had scallops which were wonderful. I had good lamb. The rain stopped part way back to Kahalui.
April 13-The dreaded day. Walked and ate breakfast on the lanai trying to memorize the scene. Packed and the manager and housekeeper told us we could stay until 1. Went to get a battery for Mrs. Shanty%26#39;s watch and to see an elder care program that I had been told about as being a model. Had late lunch at L@L in the Maui Mall. Plate lunch. Went to Borders for a book and to see what was new in Hawaiian Music. Stopped at Bounty Music, a good instrument store. Dropped off the car at around 6 and went to the bar at the airport to wait.
Things still to do: Snorkel again. Go to several restaurants we didn%26#39;t have time to try like Joe%26#39;s and Five Palm%26#39;s and Sorrento%26#39;s. Spend more beach time.
Obviously,we have to go back and definetly to the Punahoa.
Trip Report Part 2Shanty- very cool! But, do you wear a kilt?! :)
Trip Report Part 2Okay, so sad about Komoda bakery. I really wanted to try their malasadas! :(
Thanks Shanty for your reports!! I%26#39;m even more excited now about the Maui trip ';Mr. Goldy'; and I will be taking in October. I have a question. Can you tell me how far the drive to Makawao from Lahaina/Kaanapali?is?? Thanks again.
Thanks for the report!
Herbal, Do have a kilt but wouldn%26#39;t wear it in Maui. Too hard to pack and it%26#39;s wool.
